This is a one day course that covers all aspects of cardiac and respiratory conditions

This is a one-day induction course for anybody working in the health and social care service.It will enable you to have a basic understanding of the different types of dementia and how to support people with dementia.This course has been linked to the National Occupational Standards and the Skils for Care.

This one day course is to provide basic dementia awareness training for direct care staff in Care Homes and Home Care services.  The learning is linked to the Skills for Care Knowledge Set in Dementia.

Please note, if you have attended OP029 Dementia Awareness in the last 2 years, you are unlikely to benefit from attending this course

Teaching Objectives

· Appreciation of the nature and differences between mental health problems in late life

This course is called Yesterday,Today and Tomorrow and if qualified is certificated by the Alzheimer`s Society.The course expands staffs knowledge and understanding of working with people who have dementis.

Have an awareness of how impairment in hearing and vision can affect mobility and balance.

Safe environment and safe practice to reduce the risk of falls.

Health, environmental and personal factors contributing to falls

Ways to reduce the risk of falls

Ways to reduce the severity of injuries caused by falls

This programme builds on the knowledge from the Recognising and Responding to Adult Abuse and Neglect- Foundation Learning. The programme takes an in depth look at good practice relating to identifying types of abuse, and the signs that can indicate abuse and neglect. Good practice in communication and how to respond to disclosures of abuse and neglect are explored, together with looking more closely at the participants role and responsibilities in the adult protection process. Links to other relevant legislation is examined, and the course looks at good practice in preserving evidence and record keeping/report writing.

 Course Details

Be able to describe what causes a stroke and the physical.psychological,cognitive and perceptual disabilities a stoke may cause-as well as understanding what is meant by cognition and perception.

Be able to describe the role of the support worker in assisting the stroke survivors carry out functional activities of daily living.

Be able to demonstrate techniques and approaches that will enable you to maintain or increase the service users physical and psychological independance

Be aware of communication and swallowing problems and gain some practical tips on how to aid communication and safe swallowing.
